Just wondering if you changed the radio yet. I had mine stolen and cannot get the remote hooked up to the new radio. Just wondering if you ran into this prob yet and what radio you went with.
I just got a SSI. It has the factory JVC. This head unit does not have Aux imputs. The head and remote's are put out by Prospec Electronics.
An engineer at the company told me in an email: "No matter what if you change the stereo you will also have to change the remotes. JVC is no longer in the marine business. Unfortunatally if you want to control and Ipod with the remotes you are going to have to change out everything. I only found 1 remote that fits in place of the old JVC.
I looked at the spec and it looks like it is the exact same size as the factory remotes. This setup would be a great replacement if you were interested in listening to Sirius. You can find this setup at the Overtons website. I think these are also put out by prospec electronics. If you have to go with a new head unit and want any remote s to fit into the custom rectangular space, I highly recommend going with a Clarion CMD5, and ordering the custom Clarion remotes black now only available from your Chaparral dealer.
Chaparral has gone with Clarion since for good reason. Prospec Electronics was the supplier. Do a search and you'll see much vital info given on the subject. I fixed the radio and have ordered a Jensen remote to match. I know the remote won't fit the rectangular hole.
I plan to cover the hole with a piece of plastic and then cut a new hole for the Jensen remote. I'm not an audiophile, so, for now, this set-up suits me fine. At some point I'll probably upgrade the system - after I add trim tabs, a swim platform, a stern washdown, and carpeting.Water and salt can be a marine source unit's worst nightmare. Anyone have an idea the part number of this Clarion remote. I have two on the boat, neither works and I can't find a part number anywhere. The MW3 will fit in the hole but you will have to go to the Clarion web sight and check if it is compatable with your head unit.
Thank you both for replying. Turns out that remote is special from Clarion directly to boat manufacturers. After speaking with the Tech Support folks with Clarion I have more info to try and figure out.
Evidently the previous owners replaced the original Clarion source unit just before they sold the boat and my remotes don't work with the new source unit. I have two choices, I can either get new remotes and cut into the dash and swim platform for the new remotes or I can buy an older source unit that works with the existing remotes. Gonna think about that for a bit That's great advice.
Turns out that I have the M source unit and so the new remotes and pinout should match up well. I also need to replace my stereo, but I want the USB jack on the front so it can charge my Ipod while playing. The Clarion is pretty steep for my budget of totalling around dollars. I am trying to find something comparable without having to cut into my dash or swim deck area for new remotes that I use all the time.
Its dimensions are 7. This WRC-S2 is just a bit bigger. Just my opinion, but go with a newer Clarion head unit that matches with an MW3, and your will be much happier in the long run. Better get those ASAP. When I ordered my 2 about 3 weeks ago, the guy told me they only had 6 left. So, that would leave 4 remaining You can replace with a Kewood round remote and you do not have to cut anything.

Recommended Posts.By BlairJuly 4, in Boat Talk. Has anybody else had any similar problems? I recently purchased the boat and the remotes have not worked properly! More than likely its only one of the two that are bad. When one goes, the signal from the other gets "polluted" and it doesn't work either. Best way to test is to disconnect them at the "Y" connector behind the radio and then plug each one seperately into the radio.
You'll also need to test the wiring by using the same method but its best to test the remotes by plugging each one directly into the radio and then working back. I had the same problem with mine with only 50 hours on it. I found only 1 of the 2 were bad. Given the amount of failues out there, you would think Chaparral would push Clarion to extend some sort of warranty on these rather than tarnishing their image and aggrevating customers over a simple fix like this.
I have the same issues Can you get replacement remotes? All the ones i have found are round. Would prefer to just drop instead having to do mods to the covers.

I stripped down the remote on the rear swim platform. I found corrosion and lots of it in the power cable. I undid the power cable at the stern and the helm remote then worked just fine. After simply scrubbing the cable with a steel brush and reattaching it, both remotes worked.
Also before I reattached the panels I picked up some rubber washers and marine silicone to help ensure that I don't get any more moisture under that stern swim platform radio remote.
I was shocked to find that there is not even a small gasket or rubber ring under that radio remote facing. No wonder water gets in there so easily.By AstuckJune 16, in Boat Talk. We need bluetooth capability to play iTunes from our phones. Can we add a cell adapter or should we upgrade? Which system works best for Chaparral, and fits installation with cockpit remote and 2 wired remotes? You can upgrade to a Clarion head unit, with new remotes that match the cutout size.
These are only available from a Chaparral dealer. There are Aux inputs on the back of the headunit. Interesting on the AUX inputs.
We removed the head unit and couldn't see any Aux inputs on ours. Thanks for your reply. Works great. I need to replace the 2 remotes, but I'm still struggling with the price. Was able to put Bluetooth dongle on that.
Now have Bluetooth music from the iphone. Easy to miss them. From memory 10 years laterthey were marked "Aux In". If I had known in '05 what I do now I wouldn't have gotten the option with the bow and transom remotes.
We used to tap in to the back of the radio and run our iPod through the radio but now that everything is Bluetooth with streaming music and such the thought of listening to a radio station seems so obsolete. I ended up yanking the JBL in favor of a good radio with Bluetooth. It's not a marine unit but since the radio is in the head I don't really see the benefit of a marine unit. The only thing weve ever used the remotes for was to turn volume up or down.
If I knew of a way to put something in the place where the remotes are to keep it looking good id do that in a minute. I plan on installing the clarion MW3 remotes.
But still trying to figure out how to re-run the wires. I might just go easy route and buy the MF1 wireless remote and not mess with it. I grabbed 3 a few weeks ago.
They look good. They're probably refurbished based on their looks. I asked and she mentioned she bought a pallet of them from clarion. I haven't done the conversion yet so I can't say that they work perfect yet, but I'll report in when I do. It is a plug and play job. I did and am very happy. The hard part is pulling new wires My remotes were plug on each end and they worked.
Pull a remote and ring out the wires, if good buy new remotes. Still plug and play.
